Minerva Chapman LILACS
Minerva Josephine Chapman (1858-1947), Lilacs. Oil on canvas, 16 x 12 ½ inches. Signed lower right. Inscribed “Étude Fleurs.” Collection of Hawthorne Fine Arts.

Denver Museum of Art presents the exhibition Her Paris: Women Artists in the Age of Impressionism, on view 22 October, 2017 through 14 January, 2018. The exhibition highlights the works of women artists active in Paris in the nineteenth century—a time that was still characteristically restrictive to women. Her Paris displays works of artists who are more or less recognized as well as the fascinating role women played in the art scene of that period who even created independent societies and exhibitions of their own.
